In 2024, digital transformation is not a concept that belongs in the past: it’s an ongoing process. For many businesses, there is still more to be done in improving the customer experience, working remotely, and implementing data-driven decision-making, hopefully resulting in lower costs and increased revenue. Specifically, data-driven decision-making has been propelled by the rapid development of AI. AI has become compulsory in industry applications like smart factories, smart retail, smart cities, automation, and even smart agriculture, to name a few. With AI integration top of mind, NEXCOM introduces a low-power fanless computer, specially tailored for semi-outdoor use, to the NDiS family: the NDiS B339.
Exceptionally suitable for smart farming, the NDiS B339 is an edge computing system that provides a wealth of features to support a variety of functions and use cases. The thoughtful selection of the new Intel® Atom x7000RE processor means optimal performance in harsh environmental conditions. A host of I/Os complements the Intel® CPU, enabling the NDiS B339 to serve as an IoT gateway with multi-connectivity. Furthermore, the fanless edge computer promotes “AI everywhere” and edge AI with components and software targeted for accelerating critical AI tasks, such as deep learning.
NEXCOM’s choice of the newest Intel® Atom x7000RE processors (codename Amston Lake) for the NDiS B339 means easy deployment of deep learning inference for industrial and embedded applications. These processors are also specifically designed to withstand a wide temperature range of -20 to 70°C, perfect for semi-outdoor uses including smart agriculture, smart retail, smart factories, and automation. Additionally, they provide better and more efficient performance over previous generations while reducing energy consumption. The fanless, wide temperature computer is available in two SKUs, with 9W or 6W, both of which support 12V/24V DC inputs.
Nowadays, IoT connectivity is a must-have in any edge computing system, but thinking smarter means having multiple connectivity technologies. The NDiS B339 is the perfect IoT gateway to deploy the latest cutting-edge technologies. Taking smart agriculture as an example, it enables and enhances data collection and analysis, remote control, crop management, and supply chain management to improve crop quality and make operations more flexible.
Two Intel I226V 2.5GbE LAN ports can provide efficient data transfer between the gateway and the edge or cloud, while either one of the RS232/422/485 or RS232 legacy connectors link sensors to monitor soil quality, light levels, moisture, ambient temperature, and humidity status and provide real-time data collection. Two USB 3.2 ports are also available for connecting cameras to observe crops. Additionally, WiFi/4G modules can offer wireless connectivity for remote devices.
The NDiS B339 is an edge AI system targeted for unlocking and unleashing the newest AI technologies for your specific uses. The OpenVINO™ toolkit accelerates deep learning inference for data-driven decision-making. For instance, in smart agriculture, use information like weather forecasts for more precise crop management. Up to GPU eight Efficient-cores (E-cores) and 32 execution units, combined with Intel UHD Graphics and other Intel features, can accelerate multiple, concurrent AI tasks. Finally, its power and cost efficiencies mean easy deployment of AI and deep learning inference anytime, anywhere.
