NEXCOM Telematics Gateway Keeps Off-road Operation on the Right Track

illustrator

NEXCOM's telematics gateway increases driver safety, vehicle security, and operation efficiency, keeping track of heavy machinery for oil and gas, logging, construction, and mining industries. Packed with data acquisition and data communication features, rugged FMS 1000 helps fleet managers monitor mobile workforce and track status and location of heavy machinery. By minimizing occupational hazards, optimizing predictive maintenance, and protecting machinery from theft, FMS 1000 ensures off-road operation on the right track.

Aimed at a zero-casualty goal, the vehicle terminal helps ensure the compliance with driving safety guidance. FMS 1000 can authenticate driver's identity with iButton identification sensors or RFID readers. Driving behavior data including hard braking, harsh acceleration, and operating speed can be recorded and/or transmitted by FMS 1000. The telematics gateway can then alarm site supervisors for reckless driving behaviors or signs of fatigue driving, allowing the implementation of follow-up protocols and care.

The authentication feature can also be used for theft prevention, warding off unauthorized operation. To further enhance asset management, fleet managers can leverage the telematics gateway's GPS, optional dead reckoning, and precise GPS support for consistent and precise vehicle tracking even in weak GPS signal situation. In case of misplaced vehicles or emergencies, alerts can be set up based on pre-defined event types so that corresponding message contents can be automatically transmitted to designated receivers such as fleet operators or authorities. Furthermore, backup rechargeable battery powers up FMS 1000 for 24/7 GPS tracking and vehicle data transmitting regardless of engine stall or power insufficiency.

Peak fleet efficiency is also optimized with improved maintenance schedules and asset management. For instance, the vehicle terminal's dual CAN Bus 2.0B, I/O ports comprehensively collect vehicle data such as OBD diagnostics, RPM, fuel use, tire pressure, and temperature so that asset managers can develop preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unexpected machinery downtime. Coupled with customizable settings, asset managers can choose which data to collect, data transmission intervals, and automated connection with designated Wi-Fi AP. Most importantly, FMS 1000's 3G networking extends utility efficiency to hurdle the phasing out of 2G networks.

To withstand harsh off-road environments, the telematics gateway is equipped with strengthened and IP67-rated enclosure against dust, water, salt corrosion, and tampering. For system reliability on a bumpy ride, FMS 1000 features intensified shock resistance with component welded onboard. Optional flash memory with up to 64GB storage support and connector locks bring secure and tight storage. Last but not least, FMS 1000 has E-Mark certification to cope with surges and unstable voltage from machinery operating while an extended temperature range of -20 to 60 degree Celsius offers high durability under extreme weather conditions.
